Growing and Crafting for Rural Living in Appalachia

My parents bought this farm in Ohio’s Appalachian region in 1968 to put down roots and raise a family. After serving in the Navy, I returned in 2017 to help them run the property and restore the farmstead. We also ran a general store and brewing-supply shop in Rio Grande and Gallipolis, closing it in 2022.

Today, we’re bringing fallow fields back to life, tending a garden, and raising chickens, geese, and bees for eggs, food, and honey. Pigs and goats are planned, and a farm stand is expected in mid-2027 with farm-made goods, wood crafts, raw honey, balms, and salves.

Follow The Rustic Farmstead on YouTube and explore the blog for a firsthand look at rural living and a slower, more self-sufficient life, one season at a time.

Farmstead Goods

Handcrafted treasures from our workshop, including artisanal honey, balms, salves and wood crafts. Maker videos for many any of these items can be found on the YouTube Channel. Check them out and try making some for yourself. Its a lot of fun.

Farmstead Apiary

Our raw honey is harvested from the farmstead apiary located directly behind the barn. Our bees collect the resources from the forest, fields and garden. We do not spray so the wildflowers are prolific and wonderfully diverse creating a delicious flavor that varies slightly from season to season.
